Peace Islands Institute Connecticut (PII-CT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering a more peaceful, inclusive, and equitable society. Our mission is rooted in shared human values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through education, open dialogue, and collaborative initiatives, we create spaces where individuals from all backgrounds can learn from one another and work together towards a just and equitable world.
At PII-CT, we believe in the power of community and the importance of understanding and respecting different cultures, faiths, and perspectives. Our programs span various areas, including multicultural youth leadership, interfaith peacebuilding, diversity and inclusion initiatives, cultural and heritage enrichment, and research and education. Each of these programs is designed to empower individuals, challenge systemic inequities, and promote social cohesion.
Our Multicultural Youth Leadership Program (MYLP) empowers young people from diverse backgrounds to become active changemakers in their communities. Through workshops, mentorship, and service-learning projects, participants develop leadership skills, explore social justice issues, and foster intercultural understanding.
The Interfaith Peacebuilding Program (IPBP) creates spaces for people of diverse faiths and spiritualities to come together, learn about each other’s traditions, and build bridges for peace. Through dialogue circles, guest speaker presentations, and interfaith service initiatives, we promote understanding and dismantle religious stereotypes.
Our DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) Initiatives address issues of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and ability. We challenge systemic inequities, promote inclusive practices, advocate for policy change, and empower underrepresented voices through various workshops, training sessions, and community forums.
The Culture and Heritage Enrichment Programs celebrate the richness of human cultures and traditions. We offer workshops, lectures, film screenings, cultural festivals, heritage walks, and art exhibitions to promote cultural understanding, preserve cultural heritage, foster intercultural dialogue, and celebrate community diversity.
PII-CT’s Research and Education Programs advance knowledge and understanding on critical issues related to peacebuilding, social justice, and intercultural relations. We support scholarly research, develop educational resources, host conferences and workshops, and disseminate knowledge to a wide audience.
Guided by our core values of inclusivity, respect, equity, collaboration, education, and peace, PII-CT is committed to creating a better world for future generations.
